Our History
The Memorial Park Baptist Church came into being in 1946 as members of the First Baptist Church of Endicott believed it was time to start a new church across the Susquehanna River, in Vestal, NY. The name, “Memorial Park” was adopted because the property where the original site of the church was to be located was adjacent to the Vestal Veterans Memorial Park. However, in 1947, prior to the actual construction of the building, the proposed church site was moved to its current location at Hoffman Avenue and Front Street. The reason for this change was that the new site had no church in the immediate area while the former site already had three churches.
The church was officially organized on September 18, 1946 and was accepted into the Broome-Tioga American Baptist Association on November 3, 1946. With that acceptance, the church began its affiliation to the current day with the American Baptist Churches, USA.
Memorial Park is a family oriented loving church. Our church enjoys the great hymns of the faith, gospel favorites and praise songs. We have adopted our Child First program to keep our children safe while on church property. Every child-care volunteer is required to attend a yearly 4 hour safety workshop and undergo a background check. Our nursery for newborns to 24 months, although unstaffed, is open for use for anyone who needs a bit of privacy with their child. Our childcare center for children ages 2 to 6 is open 10 minutes before the service and staffed by trained childcare volunteers. We offer a variety of church activities and invite you to look at our ministry page and church calendar.
